Who’s the Masked Tester?

We live in the world where technologies, development methods and skills required for testers are changing at ever increasing pace. In this circumstances there is big chance one might experience feelings of self-doubt, despite all the gained experience, acquired skills and previous achievements. This feeling of self-doubt and fear that your true identity will be revealed under your perceived frodulent mask is known as imposter syndrome.

Having to deal with imposter syndrome can have huge impact on your life. These feelings might push you to be working harder and harder and holding yourself to ever higher standards. This ongoing pressure can negatively impact emotional well-being, mental health and job performance. It can affect anyone in any profession and career stage and tends to get worse when circumstances change. So how should we deal with it?

My first experience with imposter feelings showed up in my early years at school and continued at university. During my career as a tester a new pack of doubts was waiting. In my talk I will share my experience with imposter syndrome and tips and tricks on dealing with it. Let’s take off that mask!
