Track Talk T6

Speak Friend and Enter: What Testers Need to Know About MCPs

Paula Bassagañas

11:00-11:45 CET, Thursday 5th November

In Middle-earth, the Doors of Durin open only for those who speak the right word. In our world, Model Context Protocols (MCPs) are those doors: a modern USB port for AI that turns your existing tools and APIs into actions an agent can actually take. Say the right word, and your AI stops being a wise advisor who only talks and becomes a companion who acts.
But every fellowship that walked through those doors learned the same lesson: something waits in the water.
In this session, we’ll journey through the gates together:

  •  Reading the inscription: what an MCP really is (host, client, server, tools, resources), without the hype.
  •  The Mines: where MCPs bring real value to testing, from CI/CD and issue trackers to browsers and test data.
  •  A glimpse in the Palantír: a short live look at an MCP-powered agent watching a pipeline.
  •  The Watcher in the Water: how to test and govern MCPs themselves. Tool descriptions as contracts, prompt injection, permissions, and why a curated registry matters.

You’ll leave knowing which doors are worth opening for your AI, and how to make sure nothing follows you in. Because in testing, as in Moria, every door you open is a door someone has to guard.
