Deep Dive DD5

Add Observability Skills to Boost your Test Automation Value

Paul Beelen

Booked Out
12:00 – 14:30, Tuesday 11th November CET

Are you going to be surpassed by AI? Or can you elevate your role as a test automation specialist by embracing the potential of observability? In this interactive deep dive, we’ll explore how combining test automation with observability creates a powerful framework for continuous quality improvement throughout the software lifecycle.

Modern systems complexity, demands more than traditional test automation. By integrating observability, you create a continuous feedback loop that enhances your test automation strategy with real-world insights. Production metrics, traces, and logs reveal actual user patterns, performance bottlenecks, and system behaviors that can enhance your test automation coverage.

In our workshop, we’ll analyze a fictional company’s test automation practices and their observability gaps. Through collaborative exercises, we’ll explore how observability transforms test automation from a development-phase activity into a continuous quality assurance tool by:

* Using production metrics to validate and improve test scenarios
* Leveraging distributed tracing to enhance test coverage
* Using telemetry data to speed up root cause analysis
* Creating feedback loops where production insights refine test automation
Through interactive group discussions, we’ll determine:
* what metrics provide meaningful insights beyond basic test results;
* identify key performance indicators that matter to your business;

* define quality gates that combine test results with real-world usage patterns.

While AI may automate basic testing tasks, combining test automation with observability requires human insight that AI cannot replace. Working with peers and experienced speakers, you’ll develop strategies to implement these concepts in your organization and leave with practical knowledge to enhance your test automation framework with observability.

This deep dive isn’t a highly technical session, so laptops are not required. We’ll use Mentimeter for team input, which works via a web browser on mobile or laptop. However, bringing your own laptop can be helpful if you’d like to do additional research or take notes.
