The Case for Codeless: Is this the Future for UI Automation?

John Kent

15:45-16:30 CEST Monday 17th October

Codeless’, ‘Script-less’ or ‘Low-Code’ test automation is being talked about more and more in the software testing community and there are a number of frameworks and products available. But what is Codeless automation? Why should you consider it? How does it work? And is it truly codeless? Codeless can provide a platform for non-technical testers and business analysts to build automated tests without the need for complex programming. But is it practical? Is it a reliable approach? Are there advantages? This presentation will provide answers by showing what codeless test automation really is and how it works. We will then go on to discuss why you would want to adopt a codeless approach and we compare it to current practises.

The presentation will build a case for codeless. We will see how codeless solutions can be built to be highly reliable and why this approach reduces the maintenance task to manageable proportions. We will also see what this means for non-programmer testers. The presentation will consider the key criteria for evaluating codeless test automation solutions for your organisations. Finally, and ironically, we will discuss how you can code your own codeless UI test automation framework. Codeless approaches can make it easier to automate tests and maintain them and could radically change the shape of testing.
