Unit Testing for Test Automation Engineers

In my experience, many test automation engineers have little to no experience with unit testing, although it is an easy and very cost effective way to automate tests. Even though unit tests are usually implemented by product-focused code developers, unit tests can also be a very useful tool for test automation engineers to cover more hard-to-reach cases and to explicitly cover and get immediate feedback about their automation framework implementation efforts.

This talk aims to:

  • give a very basic, C#-focused introduction into unit testing and relevant patterns like mocking,
  • show its usefulness for implementing automation code,
  • and suggest the idea of exploiting testability to make automation frameworks technology- and OS-agnostic.
