Half Day Tutorial C

Extending Robot Framework with Custom Libraries

Pekka Klärck

Booked Out
09:00 - 12:30, Monday Nov 10th CET

Robot Framework is a generic open source automation framework with easy-to-learn plain text syntax, great logs and reports, and ready-made integration to various interfaces such as web, different GUI technologies, REST APIs, and so on. In this tutorial you will learn how to take the framework into the next level by extending it with custom libraries implemented with Python.

The tutorial starts from the very basics of the Robot Framework library API like how to create a keyword, how to log information and how to report the keyword status. After that it goes to a bit more more advanced topics such as automatic argument conversion based on Python type hints.

You can follow the tutorial as a presentation and learn a lot, but if you want to get hands-on experience, you can create the same examples as the presenter does. In the latter case you should know the basics of Robot Framework and Python (minimal knowledge is enough) and and have these prerequisites installed.

Installations:

* Python 3.10 or newer
* Robot Framework 7.0 or newer
* Editor or IDE with Python support (e.g. VSCode or PyCharm)
* Editor plugin with Robot Framework support (RobotCode plugin available for VSCode and PyCharm is recommended)
