Half Day Tutorial E

Introduction to Contract Testing with Pact: The Route to…

Lewis Prescott

Booked Out
09:00 - 12:30, Monday Nov 10th CET

When does contract testing happen?

Traditionally integration tests happen when code is ready to release and deployed to a test environment. However, contracts are shared independently allowing you to test earlier, release quickly and without environment dependencies.

Furthermore, API tests are frequently created against static documentation, whereas contracts are dynamically generated by the consumer (e.g. front-end) whenever the interaction with the API is changed avoiding any panic after release to production in the future. Therefore adopting this approach, you CAN unlock the ability to deploy your application with confidence continuously!

Is this the right workshop for you, ask yourself these questions:

– Is your API documentation out of date and you need a way to maintain it?
– Can you release an API version change without multiple warning communications?
– Do integration issues cause hot-fix or patches?
– Have unstable integration test environments caused delays to your release?

– Are you relying on static mocks/stubs for testing integrations in isolation?

For this workshop there will be some coding which you can code along with using your own laptop or join in the ensemble programming with other attendees. If you can have node js and vs code installed on your laptop, this will speed things up in the session.
