Sustainable Test Automation: Preventing Anti-Patterns

Vincent Wijnen

Marco Jansen van Doorn

12:00 - 12:45, Tuesday 11th November CET

In this presentation, we delve into the realm of sustainable test automation by addressing and preventing common anti-patterns. Sustainable in this sense is about creating lasting value, preventing waste and sharing knowledge, code and experience. Drawing from our own experiences and those of our colleagues, we have developed a comprehensive anti-pattern mindmap. This tool serves as a reflective guide to assess the current state of test automation and identify areas for improvement.

Each anti-pattern in our mindmap is detailed with a name, description, underlying issue, detection methods, and strategies for prevention or resolution. We will share the background of this mindmap and bring it to life with real-world examples, illustrating how these anti-patterns manifest and how they can be effectively mitigated. This will turn the mindmap into a tool that you can use to make your automation sustainable as well!
