Accessibility Audit at Your Fingertips

Hit Shiroya

12:00-12:45 CET, Thursday 5th November

I watched a talented designer close her laptop in frustration. Twenty minutes wrestling with npm dependencies, cryptic CLI commands, and a JSON report she couldn’t decipher all just to run a basic accessibility audit. She gave up. And honestly, I didn’t blame her.

This is the Accessibility Paradox: the irony that tools meant to promote inclusivity are themselves exclusive by design.

In this talk, I’ll share the challenges different stakeholders face when performing accessibility audits, then walk through A11yInsight, a workflow that solves this problem by letting anyone audit accessibility through simple questions. No setup. No configuration. No terminal commands. Think of it as ChatGPT for accessibility testing, except it doesn’t just answer but it performs the actual audits.

I’ll demonstrate how an AI orchestration layer coordinates with Playwright (navigation), Axe-core (WCAG scanning), and Lighthouse (performance metrics). By simply providing a URL or asking a question, it automatically runs multi-engine scans, interprets violations, and delivers actionable fixes all from a single query.

Attendees will leave with the impression that accessibility testing should be so effortless that it becomes default, not optional.

What you will Learn

  1. When running an audit is as simple as asking a question, it stops being a specialized task and becomes routine.
  2. You can't champion inclusivity with exclusive tools.
  3. People with disabilities are already fighting hard enough. Don't make developers fight your testing tools too.
